Mason Bros, a new and used construction equipment and plant machinery dealer based in Brynmenyn, Wales, recently purchased a new Volvo FH 6x2 tag axle tractor unit directly from supplier Truck and Bus Wales and West’s stock. “We’ve a very good Volvo dealer on the doorstep in South West Wales, who delivers an excellent service. However, we needed a new truck quickly,” says Mason Bros Managing Director Hywel Mason. “Truck and Bus Wales and West in Swansea had a new Volvo FH-540 in stock, which fitted the bill perfectly for us.”

    The Right Fit

The new Volvo FH-540 features a Globetrotter cab on a 3,000-millimetre wheelbase, a Volvo D13K engine that produces 540 horsepower and 2,600 newton metres of torque, and a 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox. It also has a Jost JSK37 fixed fifth wheel and a single reduction drive axle. The truck will pull a three-axle Montracon step frame trailer along the M4 corridor in South Wales and to plant auctions “further afield,” according to Volvo. Mason Bros opted for a three-year Volvo Gold Service Contract on its new FH model, and the company plans to keep the truck in its fleet for five years.

    A Long-standing Relationship

Mason Bros has operated Volvo trucks for over a decade and currently has an FH-520 tag axle truck in its fleet that can handle capacities of up to 80 tonnes among other models. “Volvo manufactures very good, solid trucks,” says Mason. “Both my brother and I own classic F16 tractor units and we also use three FMX tippers for our quarry products business. Prior to taking on our current construction equipment franchise, we enjoyed a 15-year association with Volvo Construction equipment. So it’s perhaps fair to say we’ve a good working knowledge of the products.”

You’ll find a large selection of used Volvo trucks for sale every day on TruckLocator, including dozens of nearly new Volvo FH models.
