German Government Looking To Extend Toll-Free Travel For CNG & LNG Vehicles Above 7.5 Tonnes

First introduced in January 2019, the German Parliament and Federal Council is expected to extend the exemption of natural gas vehicles above 7.5 tonnes from motorway tolls. The proposal, if approved as expected, would support the toll exemption until the 31st of December, 2023. Fleets with long-haul vehicles like IVECO’s S-WAY NP and X-WAY NP would stand to benefit financially from utilising natural gas technology, which also provides clear environmental benefits.

IVECO Natural Gas Options

With more than 7,000 LNG vehicles sold across Europe, IVECO has a long-standing history as a leader in natural gas technology. The IVECO S-WAY NP, for example, is touted as the only heavy-duty truck specifically designed for long-haul transport as it provides a range of up to 1,600 kilometres (994 miles). The Stralis X-WAY NP, meanwhile, is designed to support sectors—both on- and off-road—where payload is critical.

Natural Gas Distribution Network

IVECO’s natural gas distribution network covers much of the main transport routes across Europe. IVECO says the development is gathering pace with the number of LNG refuelling stations expected to rise from 249 in 2019 to over 450 in 2022.
