The IVECO Stralis X-WAY is a highly versatile truck designed to handle a wide range of applications, including working as a timber truck, mixer, hook lift and skip loader truck, tipper, crane truck, gully cleaner, or refuse truck. Available with axle configurations ranging from 4x2 all the way up to an 8x4 tridem, the X-WAY is a vocational, off-road truck with the heart of an on-road vehicle. Read on to learn more about the Stralis X-WAY.

    Cab Options & Setups

There are three cab options for the X-WAY, including the Active Day (AD) short cab with a low roof, the Active Time (AT) sleeper cab available with a low or medium roof, and the Active Space (AS) sleeper cab, which is the largest option and well-suited for long-distance trucking. There are also three setups available: ON for on-road driving, ON+ also for on-road driving but with a higher ground clearance and approach angle, and OFF for off-road driving.

IVECO offers several power takeoff (PTO) options to meet the needs of equipment, such as the bodywork on this gully cleaner truck. (Photo courtesy of IVECO.)

    Engine & Transmission Options

The Stralis X-WAY is available with 8.7-litre Cursor 9, 11.1-l Cursor 11, or 12.9-l Cursor 13 engines that range from 310 to 570 horsepower (230 to 425 kilowatts) and produces between 1,300 and 2,500 newton-metres of torque. All three engines feature IVECO’s HI-SCR selective catalytic reduction system that can reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 97% without requiring active regeneration. Transmission options include 12- and 16-speed HI-TRONIX automated gearboxes with OverDrive or DirectDrive, 16-speed manual, and 16-speed Allison automatic transmissions.

    Mission-Based Design Philosophy

The versatility of the X-WAY comes through in IVECO’s mission-based design philosophy, with specification recommendations for several applications. The idea is to configure the truck for its desired purpose, and one way to do that is with a wide range of power takeoff options. IVECO offers engine switchable and not switchable Engine, Sandwich, and Multipower PTOs as well as Gearbox PTOs. Ratios range from 0.90 to 2.35 and torque ranges from 400 to 2,450 N-m.

As an example, for a gully cleaner, or vacuum truck, IVECO recommends a Multipower PTO or Sandwich PTO, which have torque ratings of up to 900 and 2,450 N-m, respectively. There is also a dedicated Super Loader (SL) version of the X-WAY with an 8x4 chassis, 9-litre Cursor 9 engine, and a kerb weight of roughly 9 tonnes, making it ideal for work as a concrete mixer.

    Safety, Driver Assistance & Efficiency

Safety is a high priority with IVECO trucks, and the X-WAY is no different. It comes with electronic braking, advanced emergency braking, a lane departure warning system, and an electronic stability program. Other features include HI-CRUISE predictive cruise control, smart auxiliaries, an EGR system that IVECO says optimises injection timing, and an anti-idling system that automatically turns off the engine if left idling for too long.

With three cabs to choose from, including one day cab and two sleeper cab configurations, drivers will be comfortable during the day and at night. (Photo courtesy of IVECO.)

You will find hundreds of new and used IVECO trucks for sale every day on Truck Locator, including a large selection of STRALIS models.
