Croydon-Based Transporter Adds Five Used FH 500 Tractor Units To Its All-Volvo Fleet

MAH UK Transport, a haulage specialist based in Croydon, recently added five used Volvo FH tractor units to its fleet, which now includes 13 total FHs and one 25 Year Special Edition FH16 750 driven by owner Michael Harry. Each of the recently added 6x2 FHs features a Globetrotter cab with a Kelsa LED light bar and alloy wheels on the exterior and a microwave and 33-litre refrigerator/freezer on the interior. They also have 500-horsepower (373-kilowatt) D13K engines and I-Shift automated transmissions. MAH purchased the tractors from Volvo Trucks Sales Executive Phil Wheeler.

MAH UK couples its Volvo FHs with box trailers and the combinations cover as many as 180,000 kilometres per year traveling between Croydon and Birmingham six days a week. The trucks are also covered by Volvo Blue Contracts supported by local dealer Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London – Croydon.

    “Nothing Compares”

“I have run other marques over the years, but nothing compares to the reliability and driving performance of a Volvo. Plus, there is the added confidence of buying direct from the manufacturer; they can tell me the precise history of every truck, and the majority are returning ex-contract hire vehicles, meaning Volvo has looked after them from day one,” says Harry. “Having driven Volvos myself and from the feedback I get from my drivers, I wouldn’t switch to any other manufacturer. My plan is to extend the fleet to 30 vehicles and I’ll be coming straight back to Phil each time we grow. The service we receive is second to none; I won’t buy from anyone else.”

    More Volvo FH Details

Winner of the International Truck of the Year in 1994, 2000, and 2014, Volvo’s FH has a lengthy and successful history. Volvo announced a new generation of Volvo FH tractors and rigid trucks earlier this year, highlighted by the latest efficiency technologies and safety features. The FH16 is the new flagship in the heavy-duty truck lineup, featuring a six-cylinder 16-litre Euro 6 D16K engine that generates from 550 to 750 hp (410 to 560 kW) and 2,800 to 3,550 newton-metres of torque. FH16 tractor and rigid variants are available, and axle configuration options include 4x2, 6x2, 8x2, 8x4, and 10x4.

A wide selection of FH13 and FH LNG tractor configurations are also available. Features like I-Save help reduce fuel consumption and improve torque in long-haul operations. Volvo FH trucks with Euro 3 and Euro 5 engines can also utilise Volvo Torque Assist to deliver fuel savings. Safety features like adaptive high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, downhill cruise control, and an electronically controlled braking system can be found throughout the new generation Volvo FH series.
