Advanced Safety Features Of Mercedes-Benz Actros Essential For Load Bank Manufacturer Crestchic

Crestchic, a leading supplier of load banks, delivers its load-testing equipment to customers like the Ministry of Defence, hospitals, banks, dockyards, and others who require highly reliable power sources. Crestchic recently purchased a 6x2 Actros 2540 for its headquarters in Burton-on-Trent to deliver installations nationwide, including London where operators will soon need to comply with Direct Vision regulations. The Mercedes-Benz Actros 2540 already meets the second-highest level of Direct Vision, future-proofing Crestchic against further tightening of regulation in years to come.

    Beyond Compliance

“We had the Direct Vision regulations very much in mind when specifying this truck, but we were looking at the bigger picture too,” says Transport Supervisor Paul Howlett. “Safety is much more than just a box-ticking exercise for us, so the impressive contribution made by the vehicle’s Active Brake Assist 5 system was another key attraction.”

Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ new emergency braking systems combines radar and camera technology to dramatically improve braking response to moving pedestrians. Working in busy urban areas also means that Mercedes-Benz features like the MirrorCam system can help drivers to get the job done more effectively. “The drivers tell me it’s a huge improvement over a traditional mirror arrangement,” Howlett says.

    Actros In Detail

The fifth-generation Actros, winner of the International Truck of the Year 2020 award, is built for long-distance haulage and heavy-duty distribution. The 18- to 33-tonne truck is available as a rigid or tractor unit with axle configurations ranging from 4x2 to 6x4. There are 17 cab variants in two widths, with roof shape options such as GigaSpace, BigSpace, StreamSpace, ClassicSpace, and CompactSpace. Euro 6 engine outputs range from 238 to 625 horsepower (175 to 460 kilowatts) and from 1,000 to 3,000 newton-metres (738 to 2,213 pounds-foot) of max torque.

Featuring a 10.7-litre straight-six engine that produces 290 kilowatts, the new Actros is fitted with a platform body and a rear-mounted 34-tonnes per metre Fassi F365 crane to offload Crestchic’s products. (Photo courtesy of Mercedes-Benz.)

The Actros’ Multimedia Cockpit combines ergonomic and connectivity refinements to allow operators to drive and live in comfort. Standard safety features include a driver side airbag and the Mercedes-Benz Safety Package, which includes Active Brake Assist with Proximity Control Assist and pedestrian recognition technology.
