Volvo Trucks dealer Thomas Hardie Commercials has launched a “Drive it for Derian” charitable campaign featuring the dealer’s first Volvo FH Globetrotter demonstrator. Thomas Hardie Commercials—recently named the Volvo Trucks dealer of the year for the UK and Ireland for the third straight year—aims to raise £5,000 this year to benefit Derian House Children’s Hospice, a provider of free respite and end-of-life care for more than 400 youth in North West England.

    Raising Awareness

Derian House-provided services run about £5 million annually. Thomas Hardie Commercials has supported the charity for over 20 years, typically through raffles and customer-related events. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, impacted the dealer’s ability to hold fundraising events last year, and impacted Derian House’s own efforts as well. Enter the Volvo FH Globetrotter demonstrator. The truck’s exterior sports a bright, yellow-and-green livery designed by Digital Revolution Graphics that features Derian’s mascot “Danni” and a text-to-donate number.

“The awareness this truck will raise for Derian House is going to be fantastic,” says Derian House Corporate Partnership Manager Sara Eltman. “Our donations have significantly declined during the pandemic with the forced cancellation of so many events and the temporary closure of our charity shops. The funds this truck generates will help us to continue to care for the children and young people who need us most.”

    Demonstratable Abilities

Thomas Hardie Commercials’ new FH demonstrator is a 6x2 pusher axle tractor unit that uses a Euro 6 D13K engine generating up to 460 horsepower (343 kilowatts) and 2,300 newton-metres (1,696 pounds-foot) of torque. In addition to the Globetrotter cab, the demonstrator includes Volvo’s Drive+ package and I-See predictive cruise control technology.

Thomas Hardie Commercials is inviting customers who use the demonstrator to make a voluntary donation to its campaign. It has also created a fundraising page to take donations.
