MAN TGX 18.510 Wins Sustainable Truck Of The Year 2022

The Sustainable Truck of the Year awards have been given out every year since 2016, based on the Sustainability Index from Italian magazine Vado e Torno. The Tractor award for Sustainable Truck of the Year recognises the vehicle up to 44 tonnes (48.5 U.S. tons) that best combines emissions technology, the ability to recycle components, brand sustainability, safety, and other economic implications regarding sustainability. MAN’s TGX 18.510 took home the 2022 Tractor award based on its efficiency and sustainability features.

Thoughts From The Jury

The Sustainable Truck of the Year jury highlighted the TGX 18.510’s advanced aerodynamics and efficient powertrain. The truck’s aerodynamics lower tractor and semi-trailer drag, improving fuel savings and lowering emissions. The TGX trucks also feature a dynamic torque adjustment function, which performs a speed reduction when cruising at idle. This combined with MAN’s TipMatic 12 gearbox (the default configuration on standard MAN tractor units), D26 engine, and improved aerodynamics add up to a fuel savings of 3.7% in long-haul transport, according to MAN.

The TGX 18.510

MAN equips the TGX 18.510 with its D2676 LF78 engine, rated for 375 kilowatts (510 horsepower) and up to 2,600 newton-metres (1,917 pounds-foot) of torque. With MAN CruiseAssist, the TGX can independently steer, brake, and accelerate in traffic. And when changing lanes, the trucks can take advantage of collision avoidance technology that lets the vehicle intervene by counter-steering if collision is imminent.
