Mercedes-Benz Gives New Unimog U435 & U535 Implement Carriers More Power & Torque

More powerful versions of Mercedes-Benz’s 4x4 Unimog UGE implement carriers are now available in the UK. The new U435 and U535 feature a 260-kilowatt (354-horsepower) engine, an increase of 40 kW (54 HP) from the Unimog’s previous flagship engine. The new Unimogs boast a 180 newton-metre (133 pounds-foot) increase in torque, as well, at 1,380 N-m (1,018 pounds-foot). Benz says the more powerful Unimog designs are a result of operator feedback.

“Farmers and arboriculturalists in particular wanted that little bit more power and torque at the wheels for in-field operations, as well as for trailer work,” explains Head of Special Trucks Ross Paterson.

    Features For A Smoother Ride

Mercedes-Benz designed an automated manual transmission for the U435 and U535 to manage the higher engine output. The new Opti-drive system is said to improve gear change coordination for quicker shifts and a smoother ride. Unimog buyers can also configure the implement carrier with a self-leveling suspension for the rear axle, contributing to a more stable ride. Mercedes-Benz uses a hydropneumatic system for a consistent driving level, no matter the load or which implements are fitted.

    Greater Utility

“We’ve taken that feedback on board and delivered what they asked for—a Unimog with comparable outputs to some of the bigger agricultural tractors, but which leaves those same tractors standing when it comes to on-road performance,” says Paterson. The U435 has a maximum gross weight of 14 tonnes (15.4 U.S. tons) and the U535 reaches 16.5 t (18 U.S. t). The complete Unimog range offers gross weights from 7.5 t (8.25 U.S. t) to 16.5 t. On the road, the vehicles can reach 90 km/h (56 mph).

    Find The Right Mercedes-Benz Truck

Mercedes-Benz plans to exhibit the new Unimogs at the LAMMA 2022 agricultural equipment show, which takes place on 11 and 12 January in Birmingham’s National Event Centre. In the meantime, check Truck Locator for a huge selection of new and used Mercedes-Benz trucks for sale, including an ever-changing selection of Unimogs.
