Volvo FM Allows Erewash Commercials To Carry More Per Load

“The feedback from our drivers on the new truck has also been outstanding—in particular they really like how user-friendly the new FM is, and how comfortable it is to drive,” says Adam Smith, Director at Erewash Commercials. (Photo courtesy of Volvo.)

Specialising in the supply of aggregates and concrete means that when Erewash Commercials looks for a new truck, typically a Volvo, the ability to maxmise payload is always a priority. Erewash Commercials newest Volvo is a FM Lite 6x2 tractor unit weighing just over 8,000 kilograms (17,637 pounds) with fuel and tipping gear. Erewash Commercial also configured the FM Lite with a mono leaf front suspension, a lightweight pusher axle, aluminium air tanks, and an aluminium susie arch to reduce weight.

“So far, we have been really impressed with the FM’s payload capacity,” says Erewash Commercials Director Adam Smith. “We specifically wanted the truck to be as light as possible and Jack and the team at Hartshorne have guided us to a fantastic solution—and all without affecting performance or comfort levels.”

    The FM Globetrotter Cab

Erewash Commercials specified the FM Globetrotter cab to give its drivers the most comfortable work environment. Cab additions include full electronic air conditioning, a 9-inch touchscreen side display, and an adjustable bunk. Useful storage options throughout the Globetrotter cab make it easy for drivers to conveniently store their belongings on long hauls.

The new FM is powered by Volvo’s proven D13K engine, producing 460 horsepower and 2,300 Newton-metres of torque for excellent driveability and low fuel consumption. (Photo courtesy of Volvo.)

“The feedback from our drivers on the new truck has also been outstanding—in particular, they really like how user-friendly the new FM is and how comfortable it is to drive,” says Smith. “It’s reinforced the fact we made the right decision to expand our fleet with Volvo.”

    Volvo’s FM Lite

The new FM Lite features Volvo’s D13K engine rated for 460 horsepower (338 kilowatts) and 2,300 newton-metres (1,696 pounds-foot) of torque. The engine’s performance, combined with the tractor unit’s lightweight features, provide the FM Lite with enough power to haul heavy aggregate loads efficiently.

“Being able to carry more per load reduces the number of journeys we make, which in turn cuts running costs and saves fuel—improving our sustainability and profitability,” Smith says.
