Explore Transport Limited recently added the first-ever Renault trucks to its 40-truck fleet. Based in Worksop in the East Midlands, the transport and plant hire specialist took delivery of eight new Renault Trucks C430 8x4 mixers from Border Trucks in Carlisle. Five of the trucks came spec’d with Day Cabs, two with Day & Night Cabs, and one with a High Sleeper cab. Each has an 8-cubic-metre (10.5-cubic-yard) McPhee mixer body; Explore Transport will use them to deliver ready-mix concrete on Main Works Civils Contracts for customers across the UK’s new high-speed HS2 railway network. The firm has another four C430s on order for later this year.

    Flexibility Provided

Each of the new trucks is powered by a 11-litre engine that delivers 2,050 newton-metres (1,512 pounds-foot) of torque and an Optidriver ATO 2612F gearbox with automatic clutch. Also included is a four-point cab air suspension with ride-height control system and leather steering wheel, plus a ROADPAD audio, navigation, and entertainment system.

“The spec we have chosen gives us the flexibility to be compliant with a number of different customer and site requirements for safety and environmental standards, meaning they can be versatile and work in any location we need them,” says John Whitehurst, head of the company’s mixers and heavy haulage divisions.

    The Renault Trucks C Range

Renault C-series trucks have gross vehicle weights from 18 to 32 tonnes (20 to 35 U.S. tons), and gross combination weights from 28 to 100 t (31 to 110 U.S. t). The manufacturer also offers them with 13-L diesel engines with power ratings from 380 to 520 horsepower (280 to 382 kilowatts). To simplify bodybuilder upfits, Renault provides various pre-equipped features, including aluminum tanks and rims, disc brakes, and single-reduction tandem axles.

The C range’s panoramic dashboard puts vital truck functions easily within driver’s reach, as does the multi-directional steering column with three adjustable points. LED lights are included as standard, and driver-assistance technologies include warning line crossing, automatic emergency braking, and hill start assistance. Up to four reversing and lateral cameras can be mounted.
