FUSO’s Canter has become a popular truck within the arboricultural industry, with a reputation for strength and dependability. When Enfield-based Luke Jennings Tree Surgery was looking for a new truck to support its recent growth, Jennings decided to give the Canter a go. The 3.5-tonne (3.85-U.S.-ton) truck joins the company’s previous tipper to provide tree-felling and thinning, stump removal, and hedge trimming services for both private and commercial customers in North London, Hertfordshire, and Essex.

“I wanted a vehicle that will get in and out of tight spots, and having worked previously for a guy who now has four, I know the Canter can turn on a sixpence,” says Jennings. “There are plenty of other tree surgeons out there who also choose Canters. They’re very popular in this business—solid and durable, and with engines that don’t tend to go wrong.”

    About The FUSO Canter

Jennings’ Canter is a 3C13 model with a 2,500-millimetre (98.4-inch) wheelbase, the shortest of four available options, and a payload allowance of 1,475 kilograms (3,250 pounds). It is built on a ladder frame chassis and offers a tight turning circle which enables the truck to easily manoeuvre the narrow lanes and domestic driveways the tree surgery often needs to travel. The truck has a 3.0-litre common-rail turbo-diesel 96-kilowatt (130-horsepower) engine with 350 newton-metres (258 pounds-foot) of torque and a five-speed manual gearbox. The Canter is equipped with a high-sided tipping body with smooth and light GRP panels, barn-style rear doors, and a canvas cover built by Kurt Hobbs Coachworks in Great Addington. The body also has a full-width, integral tool box and a deflector to keep material from launching over the top of the vehicle during chipping.

“I’m really pleased with the finished truck,” Jennings says. “Not only is it entirely fit for purpose, but it also looks very clean and smart. With our name and contact details on the side it’s already doubling as a highly effective mobile advertisement for the business.”
