DAF Trucks is becoming a regular at the Fleet News Awards, having been selected for top honours for five straight years. The judging panels for the 2022 awards on 16 March selected DAF’s New Generation XG+ as the Best Diesel Tractor Unit, beating out finalists like the Volvo FH, Mercedes-Benz Actros, MAN TGX, and Scania S Series. The jury had the following to say about the New Generation XG+:

“The XG+ sets a new benchmark in the tractor market. DAF’s flagship is stylish, packed with innovation, impressive to drive, offers the largest cab in the industry, and is comfortable to live with. Fleets benefit from competitive operating costs and the renowned excellence of DAF’s support to maximise uptime. Driver appeal and fleet appeal make a winning combination.”

DAF capped off the night by also taking home the Best Two-axle Lightweight Rigid Truck award for its LF series and winning Best Rigid Truck honours for its CF series.

    The DAF New Generation XG+

DAF’s New Generation XG+ trucks come with PACCAR MX-11 or MX-13 engines that range from 449 to 530 horsepower (330 to 390 kilowatts) in rated power. The trucks’ wheelbase is extended to 4,000 millimetres (157 inches) for stability and ride quality. And as the range-topping series of DAF’s New Generation trucks, the XG+ offers the highest standing height of 2,220 mm (87.4 in.) and a cab volume of 12.5 cubic metres (441 cubic feet), or 14% more than the current DAF XF Super Space Cab. The XG+ also has a Park Airco option for automatic cooling and heating. LED Skylights are a standard feature on both the New Generation XG and XG+.

“We’re thrilled to pick up these very highly regarded awards,” says DAF Trucks UK MD Laurence Drake. “The recognition for our models is testament to the quality and reliability that’s found in the DNA of the DAF range.” (Photo courtesy of DAF.)

Best Rigid & Lightweight Truck Awards

In awarding the Best Rigid Truck title, the Fleet News Awards jury offered high praise for DAF’s CF truck series, saying, “The CF is a clear winner in the heavy rigid category. It is by far the best all-round rigid package meeting the needs of fleets across all types of industry sectors.”

The jury had similar thoughts on how the LF series surpasses the competition in the lightweight rigid truck category: “The LF dominates the UK’s 7.5-tonne truck market and it’s easy to see why: excellent reliability, competitive pricing, and the best dealer back-up in the business give fleets huge confidence in the truck.”
