Manchester-based renewable energy supplier Think Hire recently purchased its first truck, a crane-equipped Volvo FH 460 8x2 rear-steer rigid, to support its growing business. The company started in 2018 and provides relocatable renewable energy solutions, solar hybrid power generation, eco welfare solutions, and site establishment products. The new Volvo FH will deliver solar generators and other renewable power and site establishment products to customers nationwide.

“We are a relatively new company but have expanded quickly and, as the interest in our products has grown, we felt it was the right time to make an investment in our first truck so we can control the whole process right through to delivery of the kit,” says Ian Potiatynyk, head of contract delivery at Think Hire.

    About The Volvo FH

Think Hire’s FH is equipped with a Fassi 710 crane and a flatbed body along with a VBG drawbar coupling for pulling trailers. The truck is powered by a 460-horsepower (338-kilowatt) D13K engine that produces 2,300 newton-metres (1,696 pounds-foot) of torque. The FH is also available with 420-, 500-, and 540-HP (309-, 368-, and 397-kW) internal combustion engines; the FH Electric delivers 450 kW of zero-emission power. The 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox uses data it collects on weight, speed, torque demand, and road grade to adjust the revs and brake effect to improve performance. The FH has additional cameras and FORS equipment and a lower passenger door window for enhanced safety. The sleeper cab has an Anthracite grey livery and Volvo’s Media package with navigation.

“I have had lots of experience of Volvo trucks through previous work in the industry and know they are the right tool to help us do the job exactly how we want it to be done,” says Potiatynyk. “We’re delivering equipment into sites up and down the country, for companies as large as Network Rail right down to small, independent civil engineering firms. We need a truck we can rely on, and that can handle the loads we are transporting—the FH delivers on every front.”
