Daf’s LF range of distribution trucks have new engine and transmission options. The newly redesigned Paccar PX-5 and PX-7 motors, paired with a new eight-speed automatic PowerLine transmission and optimal rear axle ratios, deliver fuel efficiency gains of up to 7%.

    New Engines

The latest Paccar PX-5 is a 4.5-litre, four-cylinder engine available with power levels from 170 to 210 horsepower (124 to 153 kilowatts). The larger Paccar PX-7 is a 6.7-litre, six-cylinder power plant with outputs of 230 to 310 HP (167 to 227 kW).

The redesigned engines each have a new cylinder block made of Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) for higher strength and lower weight. New low-friction pistons, high-efficiency compressors, and a new waste-gate turbocharger wring extra power out of the drivetrain. The cylinder head is made from cast iron.

    Transmission Decision

The new eight-speed PowerLine automatic gearbox provides smooth gear shifting as well as powershifts without interrupting the torque to the wheels. The transmission is quick to respond to the throttle, and starts to move the vehicle as soon as the driver releases the brakes. The latter feature contributes to the Daf LF’s manoeuvrability at low speeds.

The manufacturer will continue to offer the LF with six- and nine-speed manual transmission options, as well as Allison automatics for special use cases such as rubbish collection and firefighting vehicles.

    The Daf LF

Daf builds the LF for durability, nimbleness, and high payload capacity, as well as for driver comfort. The distribution truck comes with a day cab, a construction cab, or a sleeper cab. A popular option is a lower window in the passenger-side door for better visibility to the side.

The LF line is available with 60 wheelbase variants in weight classes of up to 19 tonnes (21 U.S. tons). Its Paccar PX-4, PX-5, and PX-7 engines come with output levels of 156 to 325 HP (115 to 239 kW).

Daf recommends 60,000-kilometre (37,300-mile) service intervals for the LF range. The truck is also available in hybrid and full-electric versions.
