Out With The Old 7.5-Tonne Fuso Canter, In With The New For Attridge Scaffolding

“The Canter’s compact footprint and exceptionally tight turning circle make it very nimble and easy to manoeuvre around city streets,” says Director James Attridge. (Photo courtesy of Mercedes-Benz.)

Attridge Scaffolding’s new 7.5-tonne (8.27-U.S.-ton) Fuso Canter is replacing 5-year-old, previous-generation model located in the operator’s depot in Brereton. The scaffolding company continues to select Fuso Canters because the trucks have proven reliable and have generous payload capacities.

“Ours is a very payload-sensitive application, so the fact that we can easily get 300 kg more on a Canter than any other 7.5-tonner we’ve tried—and a lot more than that, compared to some competitors—is highly significant,” says Director James Attridge.

    Effective & Reliable

New and old Canter models alike have earned a reputation among Attridge Scaffolding drivers for being easy to operate. “The Canter’s compact footprint and exceptionally tight turning circle make it very nimble and easy to manoeuvre around city streets, where much of our work takes place,” says Attridge. “It’s also much less daunting a prospect for drivers stepping up from a 3.5-t vehicle, who might be put off by something that looks a lot bigger. We’re particularly pleased with the improved cab of this latest vehicle.” says Attridge.

To further simplify operation, the firm’s new 7C18 is equipped with Fuso’s Duonic dual-clutch automated manual transmission that includes Eco Mode, Parking, and Creep functions.

    New Generation Canter

The new Canter is available in five wheelbase lengths with single, crew, or double cabs. In addition to giving the cab a more modern front end, making it easily distinguishable compared to five other 7.5-t Fuso Canters in the Attridge Scaffolding fleet, Fuso improved the cab’s noise insulation to reduce in-cab noise. The new Canter cab also offers reinforced rear underrun protection, protecting passengers in the event of an accident. The 7C18 features Fuso’s new compact exhaust system that works in conjunction with the 175-horsepower (129-kilowatt) engine’s emission control technologies to meet Euro 6, Step E emission standards.
