After Vikingbus won a tender to operate bus routes in Copenhagen, Denmark, the company selected Man’s eBuses to fit in with the other sustainable transport options found in the capital city. Vikingbus had already been using the Man Lion’s City 12 E on bus routes in Odder and Skanderborg, and with an order of 45 more of the fully electric city buses, Vikingbus is able to bring public transport with zero tailpipe emissions to Copenhagen and its suburban municipalities.

"The issue of sustainability is essential for Vikingbus Danmark A/S, which is why it was quickly decided that particularly environmentally friendly city buses should be used on the newly acquired bus routes," says Rudi Kuchta, head of business unit bus at Man Truck & Bus. "We are naturally delighted that our Man Lion's City E was chosen and that the issue of environmental protection is becoming increasingly important in public transport."

    The Lion’s City E

Man offers its Lion’s City E in 10 E, 12 E, and 18 E variants. The 10 E is 10.6 metres (34.8 feet) long and carries 80 passengers, the 12 E is 12.2 m (40 ft) long and carries 104 passengers, and the 18 E measures 18.1 m (59.4 ft) and carries 146 passengers. Both the Lion’s City 10 E and 12 E are powered by an electric central motor, while the larger 18 E features two electric central motors and two driven axles. Man rates the Lion’s City 12 E models selected by Vikingbus for a range of 350 kilometres (217.5 miles). Passengers can enter the 12 E through one of three doors.

    Man eManager

Vikingbus will use Man’s eManager central command system to simplify fleet operation and reduce charging needs. For example, eManager can precondition the temperature inside the bus before the route begins to limit energy use from air conditioning or heating when the ambient air temperature varies significantly. eManager can also create timer-based charging to optimise the charging for a specific departure time.

"The new order clearly shows how well we work together, but also how satisfied Vikingbus is with our vehicles,” says Jesper Mathiesen, Fleet & PTA Tender Manager Citybus at Man Denmark. “We are proud of that."
