Wiltshire-based Westbrook Commercials Ltd recently added a new 65-tonne T520 High 6x2 tag tractor unit from Renault Trucks to its fleet to haul new excavators throughout the whole of the UK for Sany. Westbrook also has a T520 High 6x2 midlift coming in April to pull one of its eight low loaders. The company chose the T520s after previous positive experience with Renault Magnums and rave reviews for Renault trucks from other local operators.

“We had some Magnums back in 2012 so we were familiar with the brand,” says Westbrook Commercials Director David Johnson. “We’re also hearing good things about the vehicles; we know people that have bought Renault Trucks recently and they are very happy with the performance.”

    A High Specification

The T520 High is powered by a DE13 turbo compound engine and is equipped with the Optidriver AT 2612F gearbox, which is reinforced for heavy-duty operations with an automatic clutch. It also has Optibrake+ with Voith Gearbox hydraulic retarder for additional safety. Westbrook’s truck has Alcoa Dura-Bright aluminium wheels, twin roof-mounted air horns, and deflectors on the roof and sides. Westbrook’s drivers frequently spend four to five nights away each week, so the firm appreciates the T520 ‘s spacious sleeper cab equipped with such amenities as a heated luxury driver’s seat, air suspension, a leather steering wheel, one-touch electric windows, a multimedia touchscreen, air conditioning, a television, and a microwave.

The cab has plentiful storage space, including three compartments above the windscreen and cup holders within easy reach while driving. There are also overhead lockers situated in the back above the bunk, with two USB ports for convenient device charging. To increase safety on the road, the T520 has LED lights, an emergency parking brake, lane deviation warning, hill start assistance, and automatic emergency braking to avoid a possible collision.

“Our trucks need to be reliable and capable of delivering our customer’s machines on time so, in turn, they can get to work on their customers’ tough construction projects,” says Johnson. “We are pleased with the new vehicle and delighted we made the switch to Renault Trucks.”
