Building materials supplier Aggregate Industries recently acquired a 26-tonne (28.6-U.S.-ton) electric concrete mixer, the first in London and the second in the UK, from Renault. The custom-built Renault truck was made in partnership with McPhee Mixers and will supply ready-mix concrete materials across London. The electric concrete mixer is part of Aggregate Industries’ efforts to be more eco-friendly. The company has set a goal of upgrading its fleet of 2,000 cars and vans to electric vehicles by 2030 in an effort to achieve net-zero emissions.

    Putting In A Full Day

The electric mixer from McPhee Mixers is mounted on the Renault Trucks E-Tech D Wide body. The e-mixer, the second of its kind produced, is part of a vehicle that has seven new patents and not only eliminates carbon emissions but also reduces noise and offers increased safety. The zero-emissions truck has up to 10 hours of battery life and is an ideal solution for London’s low and ultra-low emissions zones. The electric concrete mixer is equipped with a fully integrated DVS-compliant connected camera and safety system developed by Fleet Focus.

The zero-emissions truck will deliver Aggregate Industries’ ECOPact range of concrete solutions, which reduce carbon by up to 70% compared to standard CEM I concrete, and the high-performance Dynamax, with reduced material requirements that help achieve eco-balance.

Paving The Way To A Greener Future

“Our distribution network is one of the largest in UK construction and will play an important focus in our efforts toward net zero,” says Aggregate Industries Sustainability Director Kirstin McCarthy. “I’m therefore incredibly excited that we are able to lead the way in electric concrete mixer innovation and distribute our green construction solutions to customers across the capital with virtually zero footprint.

“As we look to the future, the global transition to EVs will play a central role in the world’s wider decarbonisation aims and is something which must happen in construction at pace. In this vein, this launch marks just the first start of our transformational journey to supply sustainable construction materials to customers via the greenest means possible.”
