Scottish Lumber Transport Specialists JTM Haulage Add New Renault To Their Fleet
JTM Haulage Limited, a logging company based in Gretna Green, Scotland, recently added a new Renault Range T520 High truck to their five-vehicle fleet. The firm purchased the 6x2 rigid drawbar vehicle after operating a used Renault Premium model for one year. Owner John Mason notes that the Premium “impressed with its reliability and running costs,” which largely informed the company’s decision to purchase a new Range T High model.
“Working on timber haulage, moving bolster in and out of woods, is challenging. The terrain is difficult, exceptionally hilly and we are frequently negotiating forest roads that can be up to 10 miles long,” Mason says. “We needed a truck that’s robust, reliable, and gives plenty of grip, power, and manoeuvrability: the new T High copes skillfully with all types of terrain; it just keeps going!”
Well-Equipped For The Task
JTM Haulage’s Range T520 High features a 13-litre DTi engine that offers 512 horsepower (382 kilowatts) and 2,550 newton-metres of torque, as well as an Optidriver automated transmission with 12 forward and three reverse gears. It also has a skeleton trailer body and a KESLA 2110 crane.
In addition to performing well in timber haulage operations, the company has also seen fuel efficiency gains in a short amount of time. “We are delighted with the Range T High,” says Mason. “The fuel consumption has been very good; it’s still early days but we are already getting 0.5 miles per gallon more than our other trucks and the Renault is achieving early seven mpg.”
Renault Range T Details
Designed for long-haul duties, Renault’s 2020 Range T series trucks are fitted with either a DTi 11 or DTi 13 Euro 6 Step D engine offering a 3% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions over the previous generation.
The 2020 Range Ts also feature a new high-efficiency axle and lighter disc brakes, further reducing fuel consumption. To better support drivers, the sleeper cab is equipped with rear cab overhead compartments that offer 221 litres of storage capacity, with three illuminated 36-cm-high lockers with sliding curtain closures.
