Farrall’s Group, a logistics, warehousing, and transport specialist based in Chester, recently added four new Volvo FH tractor units to its 55-vehicle fleet. The company has been in operation since the 1950s and Eddie Farrall, who founded the business with his wife Joan, is a big believer in the current Volvo FH, which he says is “the greatest truck ever built.”
Ticking All The Boxes
Each of the 6x2 trucks features a Globetrotter XL cab and a 13-litre, Euro 6 Step D engine that produces 500 horsepower (373 kilowatts) and 2,500 newton-metres of torque. They all have 12-speed automated transmissions, as well. The FHs are already working hard, making deliveries to supermarkets and regional distribution centres as demand has increased considerably due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.
Other features include 3,900-millimetre wheelbases, Alcoa Dura Bright alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlamps, and the two-bed Living Package. The trucks are covered by repair and maintenance packages, and Farrall’s hopes to keep them in operation for seven years while adding around 120,000 kilometres (just under 75,000 miles) to each truck per year.
Delivering Essentials
“These latest trucks are settling in well and have already been busy delivering food, toilet rolls, and other essential items nationwide,” says Kat Farrall, managing director of Farrall’s Group. “We’ve paired them with new curtain side trailers, and also with our new refrigerated trailers, as part of our latest venture into temperature-controlled deliveries. They’ll be delivering all over the North West, into Wales and down into London, having all been fitted with the required Direct Vision Standard safety equipment. We know our drivers are loving the driver-centric cab, especially our trampers who spend nights out during the week.”
