As part of an initiative to focus more on drivers’ environment, safety, and productivity, 2021 versions of the Volvo FH, Volvo FH16, Volvo FM, and Volvo FMX will include a digital instrument panel featuring a new user interface designed to give drivers relevant information and make the right decisions. Volvo Trucks announced this week that Amazon Alexa’s voice technology will be part of new driver experience, allowing drivers use their voice to control navigation software (if equipped), make phone calls, and play music, among other Alexa features.
Keeping Eyes On The Road
“Volvo Trucks understands that voice technology is essential to create the optimal experience for drivers of their heavy-duty trucks, and we’re excited that Alexa is the chosen voice service to deliver this,” says Alexa Automotive Vice President Ned Curic. “Alexa can be a helpful friend on the road for Volvo truck drivers, keeping them connected, entertained, and productive.”
Availability Timeline
2021 Volvo trucks with Alexa will be available from March 2021 in Austria, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, and the UK. Volvo Trucks says the Volvo FH, FH16, FM, and FMX will be the first commercial heavy-duty trucks to come equipped with Alexa as standard.
