Kent-Based Haulier Adds Two Brand-New, High-Spec IVECO S-WAY Trucks To Its Fleet
Transport services provider Alcaline recently added two new IVECO S-WAYs to its 200-vehicle fleet. They are low-deck AS440S51T/FP 4x2 trucks, one with a black livery and the other silver. They are powered by 12.9-litre CURSOR 13 Euro 6, Step D engines that produce 510 horsepower (380 kilowatts) and up to 2,300 newton-metres (1,696 pounds-foot) of torque and feature IVECO’s HI-SCR exhaust aftertreatment system that doesn’t require particulate filter regeneration. The engine is paired with a 12-speed HI-TRONIX automated transmission with IVECO HI-CRUISE technology “to ensure the vehicle always runs at optimum efficiency,” the company says.
The new S-WAY range also has options for 8.7-, 11.1-, and 12.9-L271ro engines that produce between 330 and 570 hp (246 and 425 kW), and IVECO will offer gas-powered engines in the future that produce between 270 and 460 hp (201 and 343 kW).
Internal & External Features
Because Alcaline’s drivers and teams are sometimes out on the road for a weeks at a time, the haulier spec’d its new S-WAYs with AS Sleeper cabs that have an internal standing height of 2.15 metres (7 feet) and 250 L (8.8 cubic feet) of internal storage. There are four storage lockers on the cab exterior that add an extra 380 L (13.4 ft3) of storage.
Other internal features include a HI-COMFORT driver’s seat, dual bunk beds, a refrigerator-freezer combo, USB ports, power outlets, a parking cooler, automatic climate control, and a 7-inch infotainment system with built-in TomTom LIVE Navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, DAB Radio, and Bluetooth.
The exterior has several aerodynamic features that can reduce fuel consumption by as much as 4% over previous iterations. Alcaline also specified the Premium Style Pack, which includes a sun visor, aluminium air tanks, a pneumatic horn, and more. All of these features make it easier for the company to attract and retain talent.
“It’s a visual thing on the outside and a space thing for the inside, S-WAY certainly seems appealing to the drivers,” says Alcaline Transport Manager Alex Borlase. “Before we took delivery, I’d been asked by a lot of drivers if they could have them. I could have put drivers in these S-WAYs 10 times over already.”
IVECO MY EASY WAY
Another standout feature of the S-WAY is how much you can control it using the IVECO MY EASY WAY mobile app. From your smartphone, you can control ambient lighting, turn the parking cooler on or off, lock and unlock your doors as well as open or close windows, and more. The app also allows operators to track the overall performance and efficiency of the vehicle, collecting valuable information that’s sent back to fleet managers. It’s also possible to perform diagnostics and over-the-air updates.
