Girteka Logistics, a full truck load (FTL) transportation specialist based in Lithuania, recently ordered 2,000 Volvo FH trucks that will join the company’s 8,000-vehicle fleet over the course of this year. The order is aligned with the company’s goal of improving safety and operator comfort while also reducing fuel consumption during its most recent fleet renewal. And it’s also the result of “an excellent 15-year-long standing relation between the companies,” according to Volvo.

The new Volvo FH range is set to enter full production in March 2021. It features an updated driver interface, better fuel efficiency across the board, and the option for adaptive beam headlights for enhanced visibility. There is also an I-Save iteration of the FH available that further improves fuel efficiency by as much as 10%.

The FH with I-Save consists of a high-efficiency 460- or 500-horsepower (343- or 373-kilowatt) D13TC engine, I-See technology that improves cruise control performance, software settings for the I-Shift transmission that prioritise fuel economy, and many other features. Volvo says many of the trucks in Girteka’s order are I-Save models.

    Safety & Efficiency

“The new Volvo FH optimises uptime and fuel efficiency, and at the same time offers the driver a great working environment,” says Girteka Logistics CEO Edvardas Liachovičius. “We have tested the Volvo FH with I-Save and discovered the big fuel saving potential, which is good for both the business and for the climate. With this investment we will contribute to increased safety on the roads and also cut emissions, due to the outstanding fuel efficiency. We are very happy to partner with Volvo Trucks on the journey towards zero accidents and reduced environmental impact.”

    Volvo Trucks In North America

Volvo Trucks has also been working on improving fuel efficiency across the pond with the introduction of the Xceed package that’s available for the VNL 760 and VNL 860. Those trucks are powered by a D13 Turbo Compound engine that’s similar to the power plant found in FH I-Saves. They also feature lighter-weight aluminium components, extended fairings, and other features that improve aerodynamics and reduce fuel consumption.
