Up until recently, haulage specialist Majors Service of Wolverhampton had always used secondhand Volvo vehicles, but after weighing the fuel-saving potential and strong driver focus of the Volvo FH with I-Save, Majors Service decided to order 15 new Volvo FH Unlimited Edition tractors. Volvo reports that it donates £1,000 to NHS Charities for each FH Unlimited Edition truck it sells in the United Kingdom, so the fleet additions from Majors Service generated a £15,000 donation.

“We’re Volvo through and through; we started out with an FL10 and they have always been our primary manufacturer of choice,” says co-owner Dalvinder Singh Boparai. “We find that Volvo is just a very good product to work with—they are reliable and don’t let you down.”

    Selected For Fuel Efficiency

Majors’ new trucks benefit from Volvo’s proven I-Save technology and a D13TC Euro 6 Step D engine with turbo-compounding and updated fuel-efficiency features that collectively provide an additional 300 Newton-metres (221 pounds-foot) of torque. As a result, the truck requires less acceleration and uses less fuel in steady motorway traffic. The I-Save models also include Volvo’s I-See predictive cruise control, which adapts to gradients in the road ahead and includes gear-shifting software optimised for long-haul missions.

    Long-Haul & London Ready

Each of the new trucks is equipped with additional exterior cameras for added safety and has been fitted with the required Direct Vision Standard equipment to work in London. The Unlimited Edition FHs also feature the Globetrotter XL cab interior with microwave, fridge, memory function deluxe electric driver’s seat with heat and lumbar support, premium black leather upholstery, black leather steering wheel, black door panels, and the television and media package.

“This latest FH Unlimited Edition with the high-spec Globetrotter XL cab is as good as you can get,” says Singh Boparai. “When we combined that with the fuel figures the turbo compound I-Save engine could give us, it was a really easy decision in the end.”
