To support its commitment to operating an eco-friendly fleet, Felixstowe-based Maritime Transport has gone all-in on Volvo with an order for 275 trucks and is on the path to becoming the largest operator of Volvo FH tractor units with I-Save in the UK. This order follows Maritime Transport’s recent order of 50 previous-generation FH I-Save tractors, which the company notes have quickly become their most fuel-efficient 44-tonners.
A Young Fleet
“Our policy of continuous investment in new vehicles means we are able to operate one of the youngest fleets in the industry, benefitting from the latest technology in reducing vehicle emissions, enhancing driver comfort, and ensuring safety and compliance across our entire fleet,” says Maritime Transport Executive Chairman John Williams. “Once fully integrated, we’re confident these vehicles will bring a number of benefits to our operation, our drivers, and our customers.”
Ramping Up
On a related note, Volvo will soon begin truck production at sites in Gothenburg and Ghent, and the first new right-hand drive Volvo FH, Volvo FH16, Volvo FM, and Volvo FMX models will arrive in the UK and Ireland later this month.
About The Volvo FH
The new-generation FH has a more aerodynamic design, improved map-based I-See technology that continually reads the road 2 kilometres ahead for optimised gear changing, and increased fuel savings through software updates and the 460-horsepower (343-kilowatt) Volvo D13TC Euro 6 engine. Volvo says internal testing has shown the new Volvo FH with I-Save yields a 10% savings vs. the standard Volvo FH equipped with a 13-litre Euro 6 engine, which equates to a 3% efficiency increase over the previous-generation Volvo FH with I-Save from 2019.
