P Harper & Sons recently added a second Volvo FH with I-Save to its fleet of 18 trucks. The Huntingdon-based haulage firm purchased a Volvo FH last year and were happy with the fuel savings. The new 6x2 460-horsepower (343-kilowatt) tractor unit is a Volvo FH Lite with a pusher axle that can be lifted to save fuel.
Fuel-Sipping Tech
The Volvo FH with I-Save has a D13TC Euro 6 Step D engine with turbo-compounding to reduce fuel consumption on long-haul operations. I-See, Volvo’s predictive cruise control, analyses and adapts to gradients in the road and has gear-shifting software optimised for long distance. The FH is built on a 4,000-millimetre (157.5-inch) wheelbase and features a Globetrotter cab with the Drive+ package. The company expects the truck will cover between 130,000 and 140,000 kilometres (81,000 and 87,000 miles) per year.
Give It A Go
“People had told us about Volvo’s new turbo compound engine, and we thought we’d give it a go,” says P Harper & Sons Transport Manager Adam Harper. “The driver absolutely loved it from the start and the fuel performance it has given us has been excellent, so we decided to go back for another one. The fuel was definitely the main selling point for us. We were very impressed with the first one and this new truck has settled in very well too. We pride ourselves on running a prestigious, good-looking fleet and the latest addition certainly fits the bill.”
