A recent delivery of six IVECO S-WAY 6x2 tractor units marks the third round of new S-WAYs from dealerpoint NI Trucks to join North Down Grain’s fleet of trucks that collect milk from farms across six counties of Northern Ireland. ND Grain’s contract with Lakeland Dairies, a farmer-owned co-operative, means the S-WAYS operate seven days a week, 365 days a year and are responsible for collecting 1.8 billion litres of milk per year.

"After road-testing the IVECO S-WAY it was an easy decision to replace our current fleet,” says ND Grain Managing Director Philip Davidson. “Driver feedback has been extremely positive and the trucks haven't missed a beat since they went into operation.”

    Full Loads, No Breaks

Milk collection is a demanding job for trucks, and there can be no breaks in service. ND Grain says the trucks often operate at full running weight when pulling the 30,000 litre capacity tri-axle aluminum tankers. ND Grain configures each S-WAY with power take-off (PTO) facilities and a Hi-Power hydraulics system for pumping. The 6x2 tractors also feature a full air suspension, which allows drivers to raise the ride height when driving off road.

"We have worked with ND Grain for more than a decade and have a great relationship that focuses all of our efforts on keeping the trucks on the road around the clock,” says NI Trucks Heavy Truck Business Development Manager Rod Hawkins. “There are no breaks in service when it comes to milk collection and we provide a very flexible service for inspections and servicing to ensure they can seamlessly work seven days a week."

    Power To Pull

IVECO recently announced new Cursor 13 and Cursor 11 engine ranges for the IVECO S-WAY, all of which meet Euro 6 emission standards. ND Grain’s new IVECO S-WAYS feature the 353-kilowatt (480-horsepower) Cursor 11 diesel engine, as well as the automated 12-speed HI-TRONIX transmission and a steering mid-lift axle that improves the tractors’ ability to manoeuvre on tight Northern Irish country lanes.
