Alan Price & Sons Reward Long-Term Driver With New Volvo FH 540 Dual Clutch

Businesses find many ways to honor the loyal service of longtime employees. Mid Glamorgan-based Alan Price & Sons recently rewarded their driver for more than 40 years, Gary Hughes, with a new Volvo FH 540 Dual Clutch with Globetrotter XL cab purchased specifically for him to drive. The new truck is the latest in the bulk haulage company’s fleet of 17 and its second FH of the year. Alan Price & Sons has two more FHs ordered for early next year and says that soon more than 90% of the fleet will be Volvo trucks.

About the FH 540

The new FH is equipped with Volvo’s 12.8-litre D13K engine, producing up to 540 horsepower (402.6 kilowatts) and 2,600 newton-metres (1,918 pounds-foot) of torque and is equipped with the Volvo I-Shift Dual Clutch transmission which enables seamless gear changes in a fraction of a second. The cab boasts a leather interior, a swivelling passenger seat, a reclining bunk, a microwave, and a 33-litre fridge-freezer. The exterior features the firm’s blue and white stag livery, LED headlights, side skirts, Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels, and additional lights from TranzTech. The company expects the truck will rack up around 120,000 kilometres (74,564 miles) per year transporting bulk and waste recycling across South Wales.
