Haulaway Celebrates 30th Anniversary With Mercedes-Benz Actros Edition 2

Posted On: Thursday 9 December 2021

“Inside and out, the styling and build quality are second-to-none,” says Haulaway driver Jason Hedges. “The engine is so powerful and smooth that progress is effortless, while the seat is so good you could spend an entire week at the wheel and not feel tired, it’s that comfortable.” (Photo courtesy of Mercedes-Benz.)

Finished in Arctic White paint, red decals, and black gloss wheels, Haulaway’s new flagship Actros Edition 2 is a dazzling new addition to the firm’s waste management fleet. The longtime Mercedes-Benz operator celebrated its 30th anniversary by commissioning the Edition 2, one of just 400 built for customers worldwide.

“The Edition 2 really stands out from the rest of the fleet,” says Managing Director Colin Holloway. “We’ve bought in excess of 200 vehicles from Mercedes-Benz over the last three decades. I’m immensely proud, therefore, that we’ve been able to mark our anniversary by investing in one that not only looks fantastic, but also represents the cutting edge in terms of truck technology.”

    Actros Edition 2

Haulaway’s new tractor unit is an Actros 2563 equipped with a BigSpace cab and a 15.6-litre, 625-horsepower (460-kilowatt) engine. Customers fortunate enough to have access to the limited-edition truck can choose from among eight engine specs, including either a 15.6- or 12.8-L six-cylinder engine. Edition 2s are available as rigids or tractor units with axle configurations of 4x2, 6x2, or 6x4. The premium interior includes features like a sliding and tilting sunroof, a suspension seat with climate and massage functions, and a comfort mattress.

    Cutting-Edge Technology

“The new generation of Mercedes-Benz trucks are very modern and refreshing in their appearance, and popular with our drivers too,” says Holloway. “They appreciate the comfort and cab layouts—the twin screens of the Multimedia Cockpit provide clear visibility on all of the vehicle’s parameters, while MirrorCam makes a real contribution to enhanced safety, not least by eliminating some big blind spots.”

The Edition 2 also gives drivers access to advanced technology like Proximity Control Assist, which automatically adjusts the Actros’ speed to maintain a driver-selected proximity to vehicles in front of the truck, and the latest version of Predictive Powertrain Control, which manages gear changes to optimise fuel economy.
