South Yorkshire Muckaway Fleet Adds 12 Volvo FMX 8x4 Tippers With X-High Chassis

Volvo’s FMX trucks are designed for the most demanding jobs and toughest conditions, and Brocklebank & Co Demolition’s muckaway fleet recently gained some valuable additions with 12 new FMX 8x4 tippers. From hauling construction waste to delivering large quantities of recycled aggregate, these new trucks are expected to operate five to six days a week and travel 70,000 to 80,000 kilometres (43,500 to 49,700 miles) per year. The high-spec trucks boast Volvo’s X-High Chassis and Thompson steel tipper bodywork to enhance functionality with construction and off-road applications.

    A Return To Volvo

During its 70-plus-year history, Brocklebank & Co Demolition has often relied on Volvo trucks to get the job done. The 12 new Volvo FMX tippers, however, are replacing a rival marque used during a brief two-year hiatus.

“In years gone by, we’ve been predominantly Volvo, so we’re very happy to be going back to them again for this new order,” says owner Nick Brocklebank. “Every one of the drivers have told me they’re thrilled we’ve decided to go back to Volvo and that they prefer them to the trucks they’ve replaced.”

The trucks are backed by a Volvo Gold Contract provided by Crossroad Truck & Bus, a dealer Brocklebank & Co Demolition is very familiar with. “We’ve always been pleased with the back-up we received from the team at Crossroads and the product is very good, with the new model just taking things up to that next level,” says Brocklebank.

    Premium FMX

Brocklebank & Co Demolition specified its new muckaway trucks with Volvo’s 12.8-litre Euro 6 diesel engine, boasting 420 horsepower (313 kilowatts) and 2,100 newton-metres (1,548 pounds-foot) of torque. Drivers also benefit from the ease of working with Volvo’s I-Shift automated 12-speed transmission, which incorporates crawler capabilities to simplify last-mile mobility on rough terrain. Safety and visibility have also been maximised in and around the construction site, thanks to the trucks’ two roof-mounted amber beacons, bright V-shaped LED headlamps, and anti-slip cab steps.
