The show couldn’t go on without Bath International Transport, a company that specialises in hauling equipment for broadcasts, concerts, events, and exhibitions. The Bristol firm will be hauling in style with its brand-new Volvo FH, which sports its custom silver and purple livery. The Volvo FH is also configured with an X-Low chassis to optimally support the fifth-wheel height of the Mega Cube trailers it often uses when transporting event equipment.

    Globetrotter XL Luxuries

“During the summer it gets really busy and the guys can be away for four to five weeks at a time, all across Europe, so it’s important they are happy in their working environment,” says owner Gary Bath.

To accommodate drivers, the new FH features Volvo’s Globetrotter XL cab and the Drive++ package, which equips the comfortable cab with a variety of high-end amenities like an electrically operated interior sun blind, a tinted-glass roof hatch, and a sun, mist, and air quality sensor.

“The driver really likes it,” Bath says. “He’s just come out of a different make of truck, and he’s been very impressed with the Globetrotter XL cab.”

Bath International Transport also added Volvo’s Two-Bed Resting and Media packages to the FH. The former lends the cab some comforts of home in the form of an under-bunk mounted fridge, freezer, and microwave, while the latter adds built-in navigation and premium audio.

    A Return To Volvo

Prior to investing in the new Volvo FH, it had been more than a decade since Bath International Transport purchased a Volvo truck. “The improvements to the driver environment and fuel efficiency that Volvo has made to the FH sounded impressive and we’ve been really pleased with what it’s delivered so far,” says Bath.

Much of the fuel efficiency improvement comes from the truck's 500-horsepower (368-kilowatt) D13K engine, which generates 2,500 newton-metres (1,844 pounds-foot) of torque. The new Volvo FH is also equipped with Volvo’s 12-speed I-Shift gearbox and the Long Haul Fuel package with I-See predictive cruise control to boost fuel savings for Bath International Transport.
