Tilbury-based container transport provider PAV Haulage recently added two certified pre-owned 2019 Mercedes-Benz Actros 2545 6x2 tractor units to its operations. The company is no stranger to trucks that bear a three-pointed star, as all but five of the 22 vehicles in its fleet are Mercedes-Benz models. The newly acquired Actros join two others purchased new by the firm in 2019, which represented the first-ever purchase of new Actros trucks.

    All Day, All Night

Founded by Pavel Ciubotaru in 2014, PAV Haulage delivers containers 24/7 from its base at the port of Tilbury and from London Gateway and London Cobelfret terminals to customers located across the UK and into international regions. Early on, its fleet comprised seven trucks from a different manufacturer. Since 2019, it has purchased eight used Actros supplied by Mercedes-Benz dealership Motus Truck & Van. Its latest Actros each covered about 300,000 kilometres (186,411.4 miles) for their previous owner. Both trucks are equipped with a 2.5-metre (8.2-foot) BigSpace flat-floored cab, and are powered by a 12.8-litre in-line six-cylinder engine rated for 450 horsepower (330 kilowatts).

“We’ve been extremely busy for some time now and continue to grow the customer portfolio,” says PAV Haulage partner Dean Mills. “It’s essential, therefore, that our trucks don’t let us down because unplanned downtime is an absolute killer.”

Mills says whether buying new or used, the company’s Actros “have proved fantastically reliable, as well as being cost-effective to run and well-liked by the drivers.”

    The Mercedes-Benz Actros

The spacious BigSpace cab provides operators about 2 m (6.6 ft) of standing height between the seats as well as plenty of useful storage compartments. Customers can equip the Actros with such operator-friendly Mercedes-Benz systems as MirrorCam, which preplaces traditional side mirrors with external cameras and an in-cab display. Customers can also upgrade the Actros with a dual-screen Multimedia Cockpit system that features an easy-to-use colour display in place of the traditional instrument cluster and a second display located to the right.
