Wrexham-based Platts Transport was established in April 2020 to move raw materials for Platts Agriculture during the pandemic and since then has begun providing general haulage work across the UK and Ireland. The company recently acquired three new Volvo FH 500 with I-Save Globetrotter XL 6x2 tractor units to replace three older Volvo FHs in the fleet. The FHs, wrapped in Platts Transport’s new red and cream livery, are a favourite among the drivers.
“We’ve run Volvos for a number of years now and the drivers all love the trucks,” says Chris Whittaker, managing director at Platts Transport. “The Globetrotter XL cabs give them a superb working environment, and we have specified these latest additions to a very high standard to ensure we’re giving our staff the best tools for the job.”
About The Volvo FH
The Volvo FH is powered by a Euro 6-compliant D13TC Step E engine capable of 500 horsepower (368 kilowatts) and peak torque of 2,800 newton-metres (2,065 pounds-foot). The truck is equipped with Volvo’s I-Save technology, which uses turbo-compounding to reduce fuel consumption and make full use of available energy to increase efficiency throughout the entire rpm range. I-Shift automated gearbox technology and I-See predictive cruise control also add to the efficiency of the truck.
Platts Transport opted for the Globetrotter XL cabs for their trucks and added the Drive++ package for adjustable leather steering wheels with neck tilt, twin arm rests for driver and passenger seats, tinted glass roof hatches, and electronically controlled air conditioning with a sun, mist, and air quality sensor. The modern dashboard has a digital 12-inch high-resolution instrument display with four modes to provide information on various functions. The cab also has 245 litres (8.65 cubic feet) of upper rear storage, a 33-L (1.16-cu ft) under-bunk-mounted fridge and freezer, a microwave, and a bed with a 35-millimetre (1.4-inch) mattress overlay protector. Platts Transport will run the trucks seven days a week and expects them to rack up approximately 80,000 kilometres (49,700 miles) per year.
