A Brace Of Mercedes-Benz Arocs On Order After First Pair Excels For Draintech Tankers

Following a successful introduction last autumn, Draintech Tankers ordered a second set of trucks identical to the current 8x4 and 6x2 Arocs from dealer Marshall Truck & Van. (Photo courtesy of Mercedes-Benz.)

Draintech Tankers put two Mercedes-Benz Arocs vacuum trucks into service last autumn, one 8x4 3248 with a 4,200-gallon (16,000-litre) tank and one 6x2 2542 with a 3,200-gal (12,000-L) tank. The Andover firm’s experience was so encouraging that Simpson ordered a second identical set of Arocs from Marshall Truck & Van in December.

“I could see immediately that it was a quality product and well-suited to our work, while Marshall Truck & Van’s proximity to us was also a big attraction,” says Draintech Tankers Director Robert Simpson. “On this basis, I was very happy to order our first Mercedes-Benz vehicles.”

    Meeting Demand With The Arocs

Draintech Tankers, which specialises in emptying cesspits, septic tanks, and sewage treatment plants, has seen a dramatic increase in business in recent years, prompting the initial order. Shortly thereafter, the first set of Arocs were sent out on 24-hour hire to a local water supplier, and the early reports are glowing.

“The Arocs are performing strongly while the feedback from our drivers has been extremely positive, with the comfortable, well-equipped cabs coming in for particular praise,” says Simpson.

    Fitted To Perfection

The 8x4 Arocs 3248 is equipped with a single front steer axle, double-drive bogie, and rear steering axle. “The axle set-up on the eight-wheeler is especially useful in this regard, because of the enhanced manoeuvrability it offers,” explains Simpson. “Coupled with double drive, it means the truck is very well-suited to jobs on local farms where access can be tricky.”

Draintech Tankers’ 6x2 Arocs 2542, meanwhile, is configured to haul a tridem-axle drawbar tank trailer that provides another 3,000 gal (11,400 L) of capacity. Overall axle configurations on the Arocs range from 4x2 to 8x8.

    Straight-Six Power

Both Arocs are powered by six-cylinder engines. The 8x4 3248 is equipped with a 12.8-L engine producing 476 horsepower (350 kilowatts), while the 6x2 Arocs is powered by the 421-HP (310-kW) version of the power plant. To cover the wide range of services Draintech offers, each is fitted with a Jurop RV520 hydraulic drain pump, washdown jetting system, full opening rear door, and stainless-steel storage trays and lockers.

“The success of our business has been built on the provision of top-quality equipment and excellent customer service—and that’s exactly what we’ve received from Mercedes-Benz and Marshall Truck & Van,” says Simpson.
