Renault Trucks T520 High Tractors Delivering Refrigerated Foodstuffs To Europe For M&M Kerr Limited

Initially sceptical, M&M Kerr’s drivers now appreciate the new Renault T520 Highs. “They have been both surprised and delighted by the vehicles’ performance and comfort,” says Director Mikey Kerr. (Photo courtesy of Renault.)

Refrigerated haulage services specialist M&M Kerr Limited has purchased its first new vehicles from Renault Trucks after running a pair of used models for the past two years. Its three Renault T520 High tractors are 6x2 pushers supplied by local dealer Border Trucks. M&M Kerr will use its new Renaults to deliver refrigerated meat in France, Belgium, and across Europe.

    Becoming A Renault Convert

As beef and lamb are temperature-sensitive cargo that must be delivered on time, M&M Kerr prioritised reliability as it decided which new truck to buy. Its first pair of Renaults, used T480 and T520 models, had served the hauler well for a couple of years.

“I’ve always run a competitor manufacturer’s vehicles but Mike Carr from our local Renault Trucks dealer, Border Trucks, sold me a couple of used vehicles which have proved to be great workhorses,” says M&M Kerr Director Mikey Kerr. “So, when Mike suggested we try the new T High for our latest replacement vehicles, the impressive specification and overall package on offer was too good a deal to turn down.”

    Driver Buy-In

“Our drivers are out for up to 12 days at a time, so it was so important that they were on board with the new trucks and were happy to be out on the road in them,” Kerr continues. “To be honest, at the beginning, there was some initial scepticism about changing manufacturers, but this was quickly overcome after getting behind the wheel of the T Highs. They have seen firsthand how great they are and now all the drivers want to drive them; they have been both surprised and delighted by the vehicles’ performance and comfort.

“We’re also happy with the vehicles’ fuel consumption, which is comparable to others,” says Kerr. “Overall, adding Renault Trucks to our fleet has been a great move.”

    The Renault T520 High

Renault has engineered the T High for fuel economy and low emissions with an optimised drivetrain, turbo-compounding technology, topographical map-based gear shifting, aerodynamics, and many other features.

The Renault 13-litre engine in M&M Kerr’s new lorries has a maximum torque rating of 2,550 newton-metres (1,881 pounds-foot). The trucks are outfitted with a number of optional appointments, including Eco cruise control with Optiroll, a Roadpad+ entertainment and navigation system, and air conditioning.

Other line items specified on M&M Kerr’s new T520 High models are Alcoa Dura-Bright aluminium wheels, a fixed roof deflector, and dual roof-mounted air horns. Inside the cab is an “ultimate”-tier leather steering wheel, a low-noise refrigerator with 40 litres (1.4 cubic feet) of capacity, and insulated cab curtains.
