As a family-run business, G.S. Davies & Son treats its employees like, well, family. Founded in 1963 and headquartered in Crewe, Cheshire, the firm provides chilled and ambient storage and distribution from its warehouse to other storage facilities within the supply chain in the north west and midlands of England and North Wales. To support its growing business, G.S. Davies recently added a new Volvo FH Globetrotter 6x2 tractor unit to its fleet. The fourth Volvo tractor unit to join the company came with a special surprise for the drivers—it is fitted with Volvo’s Drive++ package and Media package to keep them comfortable on the road. The FH is expected to operate five days a week and log 100,000 kilometres (62,000 miles) per year and to be in service for a minimum of four years.

“We know just how hard truck drivers work, and how much demand there is for their expertise in today’s market,” says G. S. Davies & Son Director Adrian Davies. “That’s why we’ve gone the extra mile in fitting our latest truck with a comfortable specification. We hope that this approach will not only make our drivers’ lives easier but also potentially attract new talent should we ever need to.”

    About The Volvo FH Globetrotter

The new truck has a Euro 6-compliant D13K Step E engine that produces 500 horsepower (367 kilowatts) and 2,500 newton-metres (1,844 pounds-foot) of peak torque. The FH is also equipped with the automated 12-speed I-Shift transmission and forward collision warning with advanced emergency braking and lane departure warning systems for increased safety.

“We know just how hard truck drivers work, and how much demand there is for their expertise in today’s market,” says Director Adrian Davies. (Photo courtesy of Volvo.)

By upgrading to the Drive++ package, the drivers of the FH will ride in a spacious leather-upholstered Globetrotter cab with dual armrests on both seats and benefit from an adjustable steering wheel with neck tilt. They also have an under-bunk-mounted 33-litre (1.2-cubic-foot) refrigerator to store food and drinks for the trip. The media package includes navigation and a 12-inch fully dynamic instrument panel and secondary 9-inch colour display along with DAB radio.

“The I-Shift has received extremely positive reviews from our drivers,” adds Davies. “It is a product that works effectively without the driver having to pay practically any attention to it. It can be trusted to always make the right choice.”
