EV Cargo, a global supply chain management company, recently purchased 10 new Volvo FH 6x2 tractor units with I-Save for its Ashby de la Zouch depot as part of its carbon reduction efforts. The FH was chosen for its fuel economy, reduced emissions, and positive feedback from drivers.

“Over the years we have heard extremely positive feedback from drivers and fleet managers on the product quality, fuel economy, and emissions performance Volvo delivers,” says EV Cargo Head of Fleet Gareth Wakefield. “The fuel economy we saw on the demonstrator was very impressive, and we are extremely excited to see how that performance delivers significant operational and emissions savings across the coming months and years.”

    Powerfully Efficient

The FH is powered by a Euro 6-compliant D13TC Step E engine capable of 460 horsepower (338 kilowatts) and peak torque of 2,600 newton-metres (1,917 pounds-foot). The fuel-efficient engine uses turbo compound technology that runs an extra turbine after the turbocharger to reuse excess exhaust energy, which is converted to torque on the crankshaft.

The truck’s efficiency is increased with the I-Save package, which features the 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox technology and the I-See predictive cruise control to time gearshifts and actively manage speed, as well as I-Cruise intelligent cruise control and I-Roll to adjust speed. Roof and cab side air deflectors are aerodynamically designed to reduce drag and further optimise fuel consumption.

    Comfort & Safety

Drivers ride in comfort inside the spacious Globetrotter cab with a heated and suspended seat with dual armrests, electric air conditioning, and a 33-litre (1.16-cubic-foot) fridge and freezer mounted under the bunk. The 12-inch instrument cluster has a secondary colour display and the cab also has a DAB radio. Heated main and wide-angle mirrors improve visibility and the headlamps adjust automatically in accordance with the ambient light conditions.

Safety in the truck is enhanced with Forward Collision Warning, which includes emergency braking and lane departure warning systems.
