Aylestone Transport Celebrates 100th Anniversary With A New Volvo FH-540
Aylestone Transport of Broughton Astley, Leicestershire, recently purchased a special Volvo FH-540 6x2 pusher axle truck to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The tractor unit, supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, features a D13K engine that produces 540 horsepower and up to 2,600 newton-metres of torque, a 12-speed I-Shift Dual Clutch automated manual transmission, and the Volvo Dynamic Steering System. The FH-540 also boasts a Globetrotter Cab, Alcoa Dura Bright alloy wheels, Kelsa light bars, a custom catwalk, and a Nordic Light Metallic silver paint colour to mark the special occasion.
Safety & Comfort
Aylestone Transport opted for Volvo’s complete safety package, with driver assistance technologies like adaptive cruise control, emergency collision avoidance, lane keeping and lane changing support, and a Driver Alert system. Other safety features include cameras, static cornering lights, and “a Cycleminder system with left turn warning,” according to Volvo. For maximum driver comfort, the FH-540 has a television, refrigerator, microwave, and oven complemented by leather throughout the interior.
Maintenance, Service & Support
To protect its investment, Aylestone Transport put the new FH-540 under a Volvo Blue Service Contract, as it has done with all of its FH and FM trucks since 2010. The company will also take advantage of Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia’s overnight servicing at its Bardon location. “The entire dealer team there do a marvellous job for us,” says Richard ‘Bodge’ Ward, owner of Aylestone Transport. “Our drivers take advantage of a courtesy car to get to and from Bardon, and we stress the work must be completed for a 4 a.m. collection. Sure enough, the truck is always ready to drive away.”
