Leeds-Based JW Crowther Adds 32-Tonne IVECO Stralis X-WAY Truck To Its Fleet

JW Crowther, a plant hire and bulk excavation service provider based in Leeds, recently purchased its first IVECO Stralis X-WAY model, a 32-tonne 8x4 rigid truck. The family-owned business decided to add the Stralis to its 35-vehicle fleet after trialing a demonstrator model for a week. A major selling point for JW Crowther was the built-in HI-SCR aftertreatment system, which passively regenerates the diesel particulate filter to improve uptime.

“Our first experience of HI-SCR was in 2016 when we bought an IVECO Eurocargo road sweeper, and it was a real game-changer,” says JW Crowther Director Nigel Crowther. “Compared with other Euro VI vehicles we had at the time, the IVECO system eliminated the 40-minute delays we’d been suffering during forced regeneration cycles. These can add up to significant downtime over the weeks and months; but with IVECO, our productivity is increased and we aren’t wasting drivers’ hours. When the time came to replace our 32-tonner, IVECO was top of our shopping list.”

    Power & Control

The IVECO Stralis X-WAY features an 11.1-litre Cursor 11 engine that produces 420 horsepower (313 kilowatts) and 2,000 newton-metres (1,475 pounds-foot) of torque and a 12-speed HI-TRONIX gearbox with a creep mode for operating at lower speeds. The truck also has a steel bumper and JW Crowther chose the OFF chassis option, which gives it “excellent ground clearance with an approach angle of greater than 25 degrees,” IVECO explains. Crowther says these specifications allow the Stralis X-WAY to handle well both on- and off-road.

    Purpose & Comfort

JW Crowther will add the new X-WAY, complete with Townend tipper body, to its tipper hire fleet and plans to keep the truck in operation until 2026 while putting on around 100,000 kilometres per year. The truck also features a range of driver comfort and safety features, including air conditioner, Bluetooth compatibility, reversing camera, and satellite navigation.

You will find a large selection of new and used IVECO trucks, including dozens of Stralis models, for sale every day on TruckLocator.
