Irish Timber Specialist Adds First New Vehicles To Its Fleet: Six Volvo FH 460 4x2 Tractor Units

After a series of trials with vehicles from Volvo and two other marques, CJ Sheeran, a timber specialist based in Mountrath, County Laois, has added six new Volvo FH tractor units to its fleet on contract hire agreements. The company chose the 4x2 FH 460 because they were more fuel-efficient than other options and its drivers came away impressed with the interior. Covered by Volvo Gold Contract repair and maintenance packages, the six vehicles are the first new trucks to be operated by CJ Sheeran in its 25-year history. The company produces timber packaging, pallets, gates, fencing, equine bedding, and much more.

Each of the FHs features a Globetrotter cab, a D13K engine that produces 460 horsepower (343 kilowatts), and a 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission. CJ Sheeran expects the trucks to cover around 100,000 kilometres annually working double shifts six days a week. The company will also take advantage of the Dynafleet fleet management platform, which allows managers to track the location of trucks, measure fuel efficiency, and monitor driver behavior to ensure they are getting the most out of their Volvos.

    “Moving Towards Volvo”

“Our fleet is moving towards Volvo in totality thus keeping our 80 curtainsider trailers on the move effectively and efficiently,” says CJ Sheeran Logistics Manager James Ryan. “These are the first new trucks we have had and we are really looking forward to seeing the results they can achieve for us. The offering from Volvo was very competitive and we quickly built up an excellent rapport with the team at Irish Commercials who left no stone unturned in convincing us that the Volvo FH was the right truck for us.”

    More Volvo FH Details

Winner of the International Truck of the Year in 1994, 2000, and 2014, Volvo’s FH has a lengthy and successful history. Volvo announced a new generation of Volvo FH tractors and rigid trucks earlier this year, highlighted by the latest efficiency technologies and safety features. The FH16 is the new flagship in the heavy-duty truck lineup, featuring a six-cylinder 16-litre Euro 6 D16K engine that produces 550 to 750 hp (410 to 560 kW) and 2,800 to 3,550 newton-metres of torque. The FH16 provides axle configuration options including 4x2, 6x2, 8x2, 8x4, and 10x4.

A wide selection of FH 13 and FH LNG tractor configurations are also available. Features like I-Save help reduce fuel consumption and improve torque in long-haul operations. Volvo FH trucks with Euro 3 and Euro 5 engines can also utilise Volvo Torque Assist to deliver fuel savings. Safety features like adaptive high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, downhill cruise control, and an electronically controlled braking system can be found throughout the new generation Volvo FH series.
