IVECO’s S-Way NP 460 LNG-powered truck recently won the Sustainable Truck of the Year 2021 in the tractor category. The award was created by the Italian magazine Vado e Torno. The award is in its fifth year and recognizes “green” vehicles based not only on exhaust emissions but also safety, comfort, recyclable components, connectivity, and brand commitment to sustainability. Winners are selected by a jury of professional journalists from around Europe. The jury names winners in three categories: Van, Distribution, and Tractor.

    About The IVECO S-Way NP

IVECO says the S-Way NP is the only natural gas vehicle with 1,600-kilometre autonomy; the truck has a new cab with a drag coefficient improved by 12%, which enables a reduction of fuel consumption by up to 4%. The vehicle boasts a 95% reduction in particulate matter and a 90% reduction in nitrogen dioxide compared to diesel equivalents and generates 95% less carbon dioxide when running on biomethane. The truck’s Predictive service and the Driving Style Evaluation system maximise uptime and enhance safety and efficiency.

    Proof Of Concept

“We are very proud of this important award, which supports our view of the vital role of natural gas in achieving a sustainable long-haul transport,” says IVECO Brand President Thomas Hilse. “It is the only solution that is immediately available. It is the starting point on the path to zero-emissions, and the IVECO S-Way proves that it is already a reality with its performance, low total cost of ownership, quiet operation and high autonomy, it provides a financially and environmentally sustainable solution. The LNG distribution infrastructure is developing fast and already covers the main European transport corridors. Subsidies and incentives introduced in different countries make these vehicles an increasingly interesting proposition. We are already seeing a shift in the mindset of transporters, who are increasingly coming to us for natural gas solutions. Most importantly, bio-LNG already provides a near-zero solution today, paving the way for zero-carbon transport with blue hydrogen produced from methane.”
