J&P Vehicle Deliveries Collect First New Model Volvo FM Car Transporters In UK

Volvo’s brand-new low-roof sleeper cab is being put to good use on two new FM 500 car transporters delivered to Bolton-based J&P Vehicles Deliveries. The low roof is a good fit for the over-the-cab Transporter Engineering bodywork, while the sleeper cab provides drivers greater comfort and more storage space. J&P Vehicle Deliveries’ two transporters are the first new model Volvo FM car transporter chassis in service in the UK.

“We held back on placing the order to ensure we’d get the new FM, and it hasn’t disappointed,” says J&P Managing Director Paul Molyneux. “These are the best trucks we have ever had; Volvo has raised the bar dramatically and we couldn’t be happier with our choice.”

Built For Performance

J&P Vehicle Deliveries’ new FM trucks feature Volvo’s D13K 500-horsepower (368-kilowatt) engine and many of Volvo’s driver-assistance features to improve efficiency.

“Last year, Thomas Hardie Commercials worked closely with our drivers to show them how to fully utilise features such as the cruise control and I-Roll functions on our existing fleet,” says Molyneux. “Within a day we’d unlocked a 0.5-mpg fuel saving, which makes a big difference.”

The team at Thomas Hardie Commercials also helps to ensure the car transporters are always ready to work, and Molyneux notes that they are “committed to carrying the most commonly used Transport Engineering components on the shelf for us. We get really well looked after by the workshop team.”

Volvo Connect Benefits

To analyze fleet operations, all old and new J&P Vehicle Deliveries Volvo FMs are equipped with Volvo Connect. Just one feature of the telematics suite is the ability to monitor the trucks fuel efficiency, and this data allows Molyneux to reward efficient drivers with bonuses. “We use the Volvo Connect app to ensure the whole team is focused on the most efficient driving,” he says. Volvo Connect also provides Molyneux with detailed tachograph analysis, live monitoring of driver hours, and other critical reports.
