Scania Managing Director for Great Britain Martin Hay says the truck, engine, bus, and coach maker’s top priority has always been safety. The firm having recently achieved accreditation to the ISO (International Organization For Standardization) 45001 standard reflects that, he says. The accreditation is a first for the UK commercial vehicle segment, and also means that all 46 service centres in Scania’s British network are accredited to the international standard.
Safety & Health
Appropriate for businesses of all sizes, ISO 45001 provides companies guidance and spells out specific requirements needed to implement an accredited workplace health and safety management system. Over a year, Hay says Scania heavily invested in training as well as continual audits “designed to continue raising the bar.” He says ISO 45001 has helped Scania create a culture where employees actively help develop, implement, and improve Scania’s health and safety performance. Although it’s a huge, ongoing effort, he says, “the rewards are clear."
